Olympic coaching excellence: A quantitative study of psychological aspects of Olympic swimming coaches

Researchers investigating the psychological aspects of Olympic coaching have studied coaches as a homogenous group, and effect coaches' characteristics on performance-related outcomes remains unclear. The objective this research, therefore, was to examine whether factors discriminate between world-leading (i.e., gold medal winning) world-class non-gold coaches. Self-reported psychometric questionnaires were completed by 36 who had collectively coached 169 swimmers win 352 medals, which 155 medals. assessed 12 variables within Big Five personality traits, dark triad, emotional intelligence, data analyzed using three one-way multivariate analysis variance follow-up univariate F-tests. results showed that 21 significantly more agreeable, greater perception emotion, better at managing their own less Machiavellian narcissistic than 15 groups no differences in levels conscientiousness, openness experience, extraversion, neuroticism, psychopathy, other or utilization emotion. Psychological implications these are discussed for psychology researchers practitioners operating sport.
